Christina is 62 years’ old and recently retired from Salford City Council after 17 years as a funding officer, to act as the main carer for her father, who is 91 years old and has Parkinson's Disease and prostate cancer.
Christina was referred to The Work Company’s National Careers Service via Trafford Carers, and attended her first appointment with the service on 11th April at Altrincham Job Centre.
Christina’s NCS Adviser worked with her to encourage her to contact an employer directly to enquire about an opportunity, and then worked with Christina on her CV and to prepare for the subsequent interview.
Christina has now created a programme of care for her father that will allow her to undertake part-time work; allowing her to use some of the skills and experience gained whilst working for Salford City Council, whilst still being able to maintain her caring duties.
Christina said of her NCS Advisor, Tim Mayall, ‘Tim has been instrumental in encouraging me to seek alternative options, and has been exceptional in assisting with a CV and applications for vacancies within my remit. He has increased my confidence in terms of approaching employers, was very knowledgeable about my CV and has helped me to feel confident about re-entering the labour market at 62 years old. I would most certainly recommend the National Careers Service, and would encourage others to make use of the service’.
